Suburban Access, Inc., (SAI) is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) corporation that offers case management and service coordination to individuals with developmental disabilities in eighteen townships of the South Suburbs and West Suburbs of Cook County, Illinois.

History

SAI opened in Homewood in 1989. Since then, the agency has expanded to provide services for residents of Chicago’s West Suburbs. In 1994, the Hillside office opened for those residents. In 1997, SAI enhanced services by adding a Child and Family Connections (CFC) program, also located in Hillside. In 2004, SAI became a state-designated Illinois EI Monitoring Program, offering services out of its Homewood and Springfield offices.

SAI began with three employees, and now has over 100 staff members. SAI’s revenue has grown considerably over the last 20 years, from an original budget of $600,000 to more than $5.8 million today.

SAI receives the majority of its funding from the Illinois Department of Human Services – Division of Developmental Disabilities and Division of Community Health and Prevention.

SAI is guided by a volunteer board of directors that includes community leaders and parents.

The Mission of Suburban Access, Inc., is to improve the quality of life for individuals with developmental and other disabilities through activities of individual service coordination, case management, and community education.

Suburban Access, Inc., has affiliations and memberships with The Arc of Illinois, Illinois Association of Rehabilitation Facilities, Homewood Chamber of Commerce, Chicago Southland Chamber of Commerce and Hillside Chamber of Commerce.
